PG and E customers should brace themselves for even bigger bills this year, after some said their January bills were the highest they’d ever seen. Utility spokesperson Brandi Ehlers-Merlo says electricity and gas rates are up an average 21% from a year ago, including a 13% increase in gas rates that was approved in August but are being felt most during the winter…

The State Public Utilities Commission has approved three rate increases in the last year or so. Merlo says the information has been included with the monthly statements. She says there are on-line tools available to avoid future surprises…
