When we moved into our new house two years ago, I learned that I was now a permanent absentee voter.  It’s kinda nice.  On Election Day, I don’t have to worry about getting to the polling place and waiting in line.  My voice is heard and it’s all thanks to the US Mail.  I do miss getting a little “I Voted”sticker.

So, last night my wife & I sat down to fill out our ballots.  This morning I put stamps on the envelopes and dropped them in the mailbox.  We are done!

Now I want to tell all the candidates something….Drop me from your mailing list.  My mind is made up, my vote is cast.  I don’t need anymore of your mail.  I don’t need anymore flyers stuck between the screen door and the front door.  I don’t need any more RoboCalls.  Save your mail budget, save your phone call budget, save a tree.  It won’t make one bit of difference.

Aren’t the RoboCalls the worst?  One election year I kept track of which candidates I got calls from and how many from each.  I voted for the candidates that called the least.  I know it’s a crummy way to decide who got my vote, but I felt it was the only way I could protest.  The good news, most of the people I voted for lost anyway.  And those that did win, won by more than a few votes.

RoboCalls really need a way to be shut off.  I mean if these guys and gals want me to hear their pitch they should walk up to my door.  I pay for the phone to stay in contact with people I care about, why do I have to pay for their right to bug me?  I say, make those calls have an opt in/opt out option… we have to press 1 or press 2 so often on the phone so much anyway what would that hurt?

Every RoboCall should start with the something like “Press One to hear how Candidate X will save your tax dollars, Press Two to tell Candidate X that you don’t can to hear their plan, Press Three to tell Candidate X that you have already voted absentee and they should leave you alone”  Of course most people would just press 3 the be done with all those calls regardless of how they vote.  I know I would.
