This Monday, May 14, will mark the completion of Nevada Union seniors Collin Subbotin, Karlyne Hare, Kara Vojak and Taylor Price’s senior project, and the end of a mentoring partnership with an elementary school student.
The Pal Games, a day filled with games, food and fun for “Little Pals” from elementary schools in the Grass Valley and Nevada City Schools Districts, will be held in the back field at Nevada Union High School from 9 am to 1 pm. Close to 100 volunteers, Big and Little Pals and Big Brothers Big Sisters staff, will attend. NU Senior Taylor Price was partnered with a 13-year old boy and says it was cool.
The matches are made in October, and the high school students visit their Little Pals once weekly until May, when the Pal Games bring everyone together to play games and celebrate the end of the year. Taylor says her little pal had a problem with getting into fights at school, but she things their relationship has helped.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe has been matching at-risk children ages 6 to 16 with mature, responsible, and caring individuals who serve as positive role models and friends, for over 30 years.
