The Nevada Irrigation District has taken over recreational operations at the Long Ravine Campground at Rollins Reservoir, effective Apr. 27.
The district will acquire campground assets, including good will, inventory, improvements, and customer base from longtime concessionaire Russ Englestad, who has contracted with the district for many years and developed many of the campground’s facilities.
The acquisition was approved Apr. 25 by the NID Board of Directors after several months of negotiation. The board approved an asset purchase/lease termination agreement that covers the transfer.
NID Recreation Manager Peggy Davidson said the district plans to continue all of the recreational attractions offered at Long Ravine, including operation of the 100-site campground, restaurant, store, marina, boat slips and rentals.
Long Ravine becomes the third campground under the management of the NID Recreation Division. The district already operates Scotts Flat and the Orchard Springs Campground at Rollins. The Peninsula and Greenhorn campgrounds at Rollins are operated by private concessionaires under contract with NID.

As part of their actions, NID directors approved an interim budget of $247,500 to operate Long Ravine this year, from May 1 through December.
Davidson said NID employs numerous seasonal, temporary employees each year to help at its campgrounds. Scotts Flat needs 18-20 workers, Orchard Springs about 10, and Long Ravine will need about 12.
NID’s Scotts Flat and Rollins reservoirs are among the leading outdoor recreational attractions in western Nevada County. The district also works with the U.S. Forest Service to provide recreational opportunities to the public at its mountain reservoirs.
