Fire crews were kept very busy during the night Friday with 3 accidents, two of them occurring at the same time. At 10:52 p.m. on Hwy 20 at Steep Hill a driver failed to make a left turn on the Hwy and left the right side of the roadway landing into some large oak trees. The driver had to be extricated with the “Jaws of Life” by removing the top of a Toyota pick-up. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. At the scene of the second accident on Idaho Maryland Road fire crews found a vehicle upside down in the middle of the road. Fire crews checked the entire area. The driver fled the scene and was not found. It was unknown if any injuries occurred.
Also, last Friday around 5 in the evening fire crews responded to a vehicle accident with possible entrapment on Hwy 49 near McKnight off ramp. Upon arrival of emergency personnel, they found a vehicle off the road and on its top. The roof was smashed down to the door windows. The vehicle had rolled multiple times. The driver and her child were uninjured. Nevada County consolidated Battalion Chief David Ray reports traffic was disrupted during the home commute for about 45 minutes. Grass Valley and Nevada County Consolidated responded to the scene along with the CHP and an ambulance from Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
