The state reporting period begins Monday, June 1st, for water districts and urban providers around the state to step up efforts to reach stronger usage reductions mandated by the State Water Resources Control Board. Directors of the Nevada Irrigation District must reach the maximum reduction of 36-percent, compared to 2013. One notable change now in place is requiring residential watering to be only two days a week, instead of only three days a week. District Operations Manager Chip Close says fines will not be imposed…at least for now…
Meanwhile, Close says a fine framework will eventually be adopted, just in case current efforts are ineffective…
Water providers who don’t make adequate efforts to achieve the reduction mandate, in the eyes of the state, face fines of up to ten-thousand dollars a day. Close says districts will get their first feedback from the state around mid-July. The District also has a hotline to report violators and you can also find more conservation tips on the District’s web site.
