During the month of June, the Truckee Police Department , in cooperation with other local law enforcement agencies, will be assigning officers to special DUI Saturation Patrols designed to find and arrest impaired drivers. This program is geared towards drivers of all ages, but is especially focused on under-age drinking and driving during the month of June. Truckee Police Sgt. Robert Womack says June is the end of the school year, graduation time, and the start of the summer season when more visitors head up to the Sierra. He says “We have to take an active role in addressing underage drinking. ”

Officers and deputies provide high visibility DUI patrols and also address other alcohol related issues such as underage drinking, alcohol sales to minors and related crimes in an effort to prevent underage drivers from drinking and driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and one out of three of those are alcohol related.” TPD Sergeant Robert Womack said; “We want our teens to make it through graduation and go on to be successful in their adult lives.” Sgt. Womack went on to say, “We need to make sure we give them every chance to be successful. Drinking and driving is a chance no one needs to take.”
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
