The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department arrested Keith Cook, 27, transient, in connection with several commercial break-ins early Saturday morning, according to Sheriff Steven Durfor.
Just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning deputies received the first of the burglary reports. Responding to an alarm at Hometown Burger, in the 4700 block of Olivehurst Avenue, deputies found that someone had pried open a door to the business. The owner was later able to determine that someone had stolen the cash register from the business.
Later Saturday morning the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department received four similar calls to other businesses between the 4800 and 5000 blocks of Olivehurst Avenue. The cash register had been stolen from the Cinco de Mayo Restaurant after the suspect pried a lock and forced entry. Someone had also attempted to force open a door at the nearby Express Laundry, but they were apparently unable to get into the building.
Deputies were also called to Las Tarascas Restaurant after a door had been forcibly removed from the bathroom of the building. The suspect, who had cut the power to the building, had entered the bathroom and attempted to force their way through the wall of the building. The suspect also broke into a shed on the property and appeared to have taken several items, including a weedeater, some clothing and paint.
Then at about 5:30 a.m. deputies responded to the Olivehurst Mini-Mart. The owner of the store arrived there just after 5:00 a.m. and noted that the power was off. He turned the power back on and then several minutes later he noted the surveillance camera on the roof malfunctioned. Within a minute a subject could be seen coming off of the roof. Deputies viewed the video and identified Cook as a potential suspect.
Later Saturday, a deputy spotted Cook walking in East Linda. Cook was found in possession of an item allegedly stolen from the Cinco de Mayo restaurant. Deputies also found a small amount of methamphetamine on Cook. Cook was booked into the Yuba County jail for burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
