It’s something that we’ve all heard, and probably told ourselves, “That which does not kill us only makes us stronger”.    I’ve leaned on Friedrich Nietzsche’s little aphorism more than a couple of times myself.  You know, it’s actually helped too.

Today in an effort to help 2 of my kids through rough patches, I passed along those sage words again.  And I learned, it really doesn’t help me as I watch my kids struggle.  They are both grown-up, out on their own, adults. There really isn’t a thing I can do to help them other than provide encouragement.

So, I will be encouraging.  I will be there to help in anyway I can.  I will also be thinking about changing Nietzsche’s original quote to something along the lines of “That which does not kill us only makes us stronger, but gives our parents ulcers”

Of course any discussion of Friedrich Nietzsche requires me to think of Mel Brooks classic movie “Blazing Saddles”  “Out of chaos comes order”, the remainder of the movie line . . . . is not safe for a family blog (But in the context of the movie – Hilarious!)  And on further consideration maybe the correct answer to most the original  quote.
