Nordic Marketplace Celebrates Local Scandinavian Roots
Nordic Marketplace Celebrates Local Scandinavian Roots

Experience Scandinavian culture this Saturday at Grass Valley’s Nordic Marketplace, featuring Viking reenactments, traditional food, live music, and family-friendly history at the Banner Grange.
The Nordic Marketplace returns to the Banner Grange in Grass Valley on Saturday. It offers a celebration of all things Scandinavian, including Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and even parts of the Artic region. Karen Nichols is a member of the local Sons of Norway. She says there’s been a strong Nordic heritage in the area and the Marketplace features the fun things that come with that, including Vikings, good food, dancing, and hospitality…
Attendees can browse vendors and enjoy live music. They can also see demonstrations of Scandinavian fiber arts and Nordic cooking. Free crafting for kids is also available. And Nichols says it can also be an educational event. She says they can learn about immigration and the history of the formation of America, which includes a more complete portrait of the Vikings…
There will be a Viking era reenactment group, who will provide demonstrations on daily life. They will offer a living history of the culture, weapons, and crafts from a thousand years ago. Admission to the Nordic Marketplace is 10-dollars, with no charge for kids 12 and under. That’s on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, at the Banner Grange on McCourtney Road.
